Orbit 1.1.0 for Android

Orbit is distributed as a signed APK you install yourself. It is not on Google Play. You need Android 7.0 (API 24) or newer, and about a minute.

For almost every modern phone

If your phone was made in the last several years, this is the build you want. It is the smallest one that will run on it.

Cloud backup is invite-only for now

Backing up to your Google Drive requires signing in with Google, and that sign-in is currently limited to invited testers while Orbit goes through Google’s verification process. Everything else in Orbit works without an account: tasks, drawers, repeating tasks, reminders, the calendar, search and the widget are all fully available offline. If you would like a tester invitation, email info@skordlabs.com.

Installing

Android calls this sideloading. It is normal, and the prompts you will see are Android being careful rather than something being wrong.

  1. Download the APK on the phoneTap the download button above on the device you want Orbit on. Your browser may warn that this kind of file can harm your device — that warning appears for every APK.
  2. Open the fileTap the file in your notification shade, or find it in Files under Downloads and tap it there.
  3. Allow installs from your browserThe first time, Android asks you to allow "install unknown apps" for whichever app opened the file — usually Chrome or Files. Turn it on, then go back and tap the file again.
  4. Expect a Play Protect warningPlay Protect will say the app was not scanned or comes from an unknown developer. That is what it says about every app installed outside the Play Store. Choose "Install anyway" if you are happy to continue.
  5. Open OrbitAllow notifications when asked, so reminders can arrive. Nothing else is required — no account, no connection.

Requirements

  • Android 7.0 (API 24) or newer
  • Roughly 60 MB free storage
  • Notification permission, for reminders
  • Exact alarm permission, so reminders arrive at the minute
  • No connection required. No account required.

Something not working?

The support page covers Play Protect warnings, reminders that do not arrive, adding the widget and where the backup is kept.
